Shopping in Boston, USA

Shopping in Boston, USA

The city of Boston, best known for its history, has no reputation as a shopping center in the United States. And the impression is not wrong. You have to pan a lot to find the places that offer the most shopping options. There are almost no shopping malls, let alone outlets (the nearest is more than an hour from the center).

We are, however, talking about a city in the United States! Despite departing slightly from the pattern of American consumerism, Boston hides some strongholds capable of meeting the shopping needs of tourists. If you are on a trip and your main focus is to fill bags and blow your credit card, change destinations and run to Miami, New York, Orlando or even Chicago. However, if you just want to do some shopping while you’re on vacation, Boston won’t let you down. After all, prices are the same at Macy’s and Apple Store across the country!  Check abbreviationfinder.org for abbreviations and acronyms related to Boston, USA.

The city’s most famous shopping street is Newbury. There are eight blocks of charming houses that house shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. The tour is great and so are the shopping options! In addition to the most affordable brands, such as GAP, Banana Republic, Anthropologie, Levis and Zara, Newbury Street brings together the big haute couture stores. At the corner with Arlington Street is where the luxury brand parade begins: Burberry, Chanel, Valentino and others enchant fashionistas. For those who like to mine, the street also houses small and independent brands, great for those who prefer exclusive models.

Extend the route to Boylston Street, parallel to Newbury. There are the Apple store and the mall on the ground floor of the Prudential Center, where the Skywalk Observatory is located. The mall is not big, but it has a good variety of brands and restaurants, including: Aldo, L’Occitane, Oakley, Saks Fifth Avenue, The Body Shop and, to kill the hunger, the Cheesecake Factory.

Among the best shopping options in the region is the CambridgeSide Galleria, in the neighboring city of Cambridge and close to the Science Museum. The mall has more than 120 brands and they will certainly be able to supply a good part of their purchases, starting with the Apple Store, Macy’s, and H&M. The latter two can also be found in the Downtown Crossing region, where shops are squeezed between the city’s historic buildings. It is these regions full of rush and good opportunities. Also in the line of high street stores, Harvard Square and the Faneuil Hall Marketplaceoffer options that escape the famous brands. Good for those who want to spend little and looking for a different product.

If shopping in town isn’t enough and your hand is still itching for an outlet, the best option is Wrentham Village. A member of the Premium chain, famous among Brazilians used to shopping, this outlet offers 170 brands. Great for those who really don’t want to leave the USA without bargaining for some discounts. Wrentham is located 70 km from Boston and to get there you will need to rent a car or a shuttle service, which costs US $ 40. The price seems high, but it is what you will save on the first jeans purchase. Don’t forget the discount coupons and happy shopping!

Apple Store, Boylston Street

A darling among Brazilians and a mandatory tour for technology fans visiting the US, the Apple Store is also present in Boston. There are two stores, one at the Cambridge Side mall and the other on Boylston Street (close to the Newbury St. shopping area). There you will find all the brand’s launches and will be able to buy from cell phones to computers. The Boylston store is especially beautiful. With a beautiful glass staircase inside and a green roof (it can be seen from the top of the Skywalk), it is the favorite of applemaniacs.

CambridgeSide Galleria

There are few malls in Boston, so few that the biggest one is not even in the city, but in Cambridge. With 120 stores, the CambridgSide Galleria is a great option for those who are going to do some shopping. The space is not very large compared to shopping centers in other larger cities in the USA, however it has a good part of the stores that Brazilians enjoy most.

Anchor brands include Macy’s and Sears. For electronics enthusiasts, Apple, Best Buy and Radio Shack can handle a lot of shopping. If your focus is on clothes and accessories, there you will find Armani Exchange, Abercrombie, Aldo, Banana Republic, Gap, H&M, Hollister, Victoria’s Secret, among others. For cosmetics, run to Bath and Body Works, Body Shop, Sephora or Perfumania. And for the little ones there is a beautiful store at Children’s Place. After shopping, be sure to grab a snack at the Cheesecake Factory.

Access is easy by metro and the mall is very close to the Science Museum.

Downtown Crossing

In downtown Boston, between Washington St. and Boston Common, dozens of stores fill the narrow streets of the historic area. The space is always full of people rushing around. Between one step and another, it’s time to take a break and take advantage of one of the promotions stamped on the local windows. The path is almost mandatory for anyone on the Freedom Trail, so take the chance.

The main star of the trade is a huge Macy’s store, accompanied by an H&M. Anyone who is passionate about American pharmacies, which look more like supermarkets, will be delighted with the giant Walgreens installed there.

In addition to shopping, Downtown Crossing offers good options for bars, restaurants and theaters, especially in the Theater District area. It is worth the tip to take a little care when circulating between the alleys after the stores are already closed.

Faneuil Hall Marketplace

Behind the historic Faneuil Hall, a large shopping complex was built, which now houses shops and restaurants. There are three buildings that make up a great shopping region, especially for those who are traveling the Freedom Trail.

The central building is Quincy Market. Built in 1826, the place hosts dozens of varied food options that make gourmet tourists happy. On the sides are the two new complexes: South and North Canopy. Together, the buildings offer more than 100 options of shops and stalls for tourists. Local brands include Uniclo, Ann Taylor, Urban Outfitters, Coach, Gap and Victoria’s Secret.

The Faneuil Hall Marketplace is also the stage for many presentations and is famous for the democratic space granted to street artists.

Harvard Square

Neighboring the University of the same name, the region, known as Harvard Square, extrapolates the square and proceeds to the nearby streets. The stores are scattered and you have to walk around the area to find them. It is no sacrifice, as the neighborhood is a delight to be explored on foot. The shops are varied. You’ll find some big brands there, like Urban Outfitters and Gap, but the stars are small brands, which sell exclusive products.

One of the stars of Harvard Square is the famous bookstore that since 1932 has provided material for students. The Harvard Bookstore is among the darlings of students and has a wonderful collection. You can also find many Harvard souvenirs nearby.

As a good university neighborhood, Harvard Square offers several restaurants, bars, cafes and pubs at great prices. Worth the day’s tour.

Newbury Street

Passionate about high street shopping, you can not miss strolling Newbury Street. The long avenue is filled with good stores, among famous, funky and exclusive brands. In each of the red tiljolo buildings you will find a surprise. It is a most pleasant program, especially if the weather helps. It is difficult to keep your eyes on both sides of the street and not miss anything, so the ideal is to go one way and go back the other, so there is no risk of missing a beautiful little store that only exists there. There are eight blocks full of great options to fill your suitcase. From GAP to Gucci. The stores also extend to Boylston Street.

For those who enjoy outdoor restaurants and bars, the street is also an excellent option. The specialties are many and certainly one of them will please you. Especially during the summer, the sidewalk tables fill up during happy hour. Even in winter, be sure to enjoy it. The tables pass inside, but the taste of the food is the same. It is great for both day and night.

The Shops at Prudential Center

On the ground floor of the Pudential Center, a small mall offers some good shopping options. The variety is not great, but it can solve last minute purchases. In addition, Prudential is very close to Newbury Street, one of the main shopping areas in the city. The mall has brands like L’Occitane, Aldo, Oakley, Ann Taylor, Gucci, Godiva, Lacoste, Sephora, Body Shop and a large Microsoft store.

In addition to the stores, the Prudential Center offers a good food court and some restaurant options, such as Cheesecake Factory, Legal Sea Food and 5 Napkin Burger. Great for after the Skywalk Observatory tour.
