HTC U Ultra and LG V20, Face to Face: Four Screens for Only Two Phones

HTC is still in free fall, but the company does not give up easily and continues trying to raise head in the mobile sector. His last attempt? The HTC U Ultra, a high-end with advanced features and a striking glass design that introduces a new feature to the Taiwanese brand: the secondary screen for notifications.

But it is a new concept for HTC doesn’t mean that it is original. The idea of the secondary screen on the panel is something that we had already seen previously with the series V of LG, the LG V20 as the latest model. We are facing the new HTC U Ultra with LG V20.

This screen sounds like us too

According to the own HTC, the new HTC U Ultra is a change of direction for the brand and one of the arguments to support this theory is your sub panel located on the screen. However, as we said this is a feature that we already knew LG V20, so original has little. By seeming to have the same resolution.

LG V20 boasts a main panel IPS Quantum of 5.7-inch QHD resolution 1440 p. On it is mentioned secondary screen that offers a resolution of 160 x 1,040 pixels. If we look at the HTC U Ultra, the configuration is exactly the same, with the difference that here the panel technology is Super LCD5.

And what does this screen? In the case of HTC works as a kind of advanced notification bar in which we can see information such as the date, time, and battery level even when the main screen is at rest – something like the screen Always ON. In addition, it serves as a shortcut for apps or favorite contacts and will be a key point for HTC Companion, the new wizard that opens with this range of devices.

And what is it that makes the secondary screen on the LG V20? So basically the same, with the exception that LG does not have an own virtual assistant, but does Google Now, by what we have seen in the presentation, it offers the same functions as HTC Companion, as for example tell us that we leave before a appointment if there is traffic or mobile with voice control. That Yes, HTC says that his assistant is becoming smarter as we use it more, so it of time we give them the benefit of the doubt.

LG V20 vs HTC U Ultra: Battle of specifications

The Taiwanese brand has been the batteries in technical and brings a Snapdragon 821 chip with 4 GB of RAM, 7.0 Android Nougat series and a photo profile which promises good results. It is striking that they have returned to bring their cameras the nomenclature UltraPixel, but in this case opt for a higher resolution: 12 mega pixels to 16-Megapixel for the front and the rear. Only 3,000 mAh battery is the discordant note that shadows a very complete technical profile, but here LG nor does it much better.

The design is perhaps one of their highlights for this chassis made in glass so striking, but in the section on hardware, although it gets placed at the level of a heavyweight such as LG V20, nor achieved emerge significantly, especially if we take into account its price: nothing less than 749 euros. Judge for yourselves.
