Located in Queensland, Brisbane is often overshadowed by the larger Aussie cities of Sydney and Melbourne – and swamp . The cozy city has about two million inhabitants, but the friendly atmosphere in Brisbane doesn’t feel like the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Built on the banks of the Brisbane River, the city is steadily growing in population, and no wonder: Brisbane has it all. In addition to a great climate and vibrant cultural life, the city has long sandy beaches and world-class water sports. The immediate Brissie charms the traveler.

On the map, Brisbane is located in the middle of the east coast. Thus, according to the scale of Australia, the city has moderate distances to both the more southern metropolises and the tropical north. Just off Brisbane are the surfers ’favorite beach areas of the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.

The South Bank is Brisbane’s cultural and entertainment hub, stretching along the Brisbane River. The area offers a comprehensive range of restaurants and bars, as well as galleries and museums. Shopping will also be done on the South Bank, and the city can be viewed from a bird’s eye view from The Wheel of Brisbane.

Another interesting area in Brisbane is Fortitude Valley. In addition to designer clothing stores and vintage boutiques, the district has a great market to find. Brisbane’s nightlife and live music offerings are also focused on the bohemian Fortitude Valley.

The Story Bridge Bridge is a handsome landmark in Brisbane that often flashes in images of the city. The most ferocious travelers can experience Story Bridge by taking part in an excursion that hurts along the bridge’s superstructures in high air.

Brisbane is spared the worst monsoon rains in the north as well as the cool winter weather in more southern Australia – nice warm days around 20 degrees are common. Note, however, that the Australian summer months from December to February in Brisbane are very hot and the meter can rise to 40 degrees.

Twenty hours flight

The journey from Finland to Australia is usually made via Asia. A direct flight from Helsinki to Singapore takes the passenger halfway, from where you can continue on another flight to Brisbane. A total of twenty actual flight hours accrue. Prices for round trips vary between 1000-2000 euros, depending on the season.

Brisbane Airport is approximately 20 km from the city center. The airport is Australia’s third largest after Sydney and Melbourne. In addition to your own rental car or taxi, there are good public transport links from the airport.

There will be no shortage of accommodation

As in any major city, Brisbane has plenty to offer in terms of accommodation. There is plenty of choice from hotels of all levels to more affordable inns and hostels. Of course, furnished holiday homes are also available.

Getting around the city is easy

Brisbane’s operational public transport system TransLink operates buses, trains and ferries. In the city center, you can get around on foot.

There is no need for a rental car in the city, but car rental is recommended for exploring the surrounding area. There are several picturesque areas around Brisbane, including the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast coastlines.

City Hall is a handsome landmark

The historic City Hall is one of Brisbane’s most famous buildings. The town hall on King George Square is easily identified by the 70-meter-high bell tower. The building was inspired by the bell tower of the Campanile di San Marco in St. Mark’s Square in Venice.

Opened in 1930, the town hall is in need of renovation, and three years of renovation work will be carried out there until 2012.

The Wheel of Brisbane – a local ferris wheel

Near the city’s South Bank entertainment center, a traveler can’t help but spot Brisbane’s white gleaming Ferris wheel. A quarter of a spin of Brisbane gives you a handsome 360-degree panoramic view almost 60 meters above the ground.

On the Ferris wheel, you can either focus on enjoying the scenery or learn something new by listening to a recorded guide. There are also many different events on site.

Crunchy koala in a shelter

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is a shelter dedicated to koalas, inhabited by more than 130 gray fur coats. Kangaroos, snakes and birds, among others, can also be found. Animals have the opportunity to get fed, and a fluffy koala can even be caught in their arms.

Lone Pin also has the opportunity to participate in a program that entitles the visitor to work during the day as a pet keeper. By assisting professional caregivers, close contact with the animals is achieved.

The Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is committed to promoting the welfare of rare animals and raising human awareness. There is a regular bus service from Brisbane to Lone Pine.

Botanical Garden

Brisbane City Botanic Gardens is a popular attraction. The greenery of the garden is a nice stop to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The botanical garden is bordered by both downtown Brisbane with its skyscrapers and the Brisbane River. The city skyline in classes shows a stark contrast to the oasis-like garden. Sometimes concerts and events are also held on site.
